Flight salve is a type of ointment used by European witches and wizards to create a means of transportation before the advent of flying broomsticks. There were several recipes for the salve, but some of the most common ingredients were fly agaric (also known as toadstool), nightshade, henbane and belladonna.

Contrary to popular belief, witches and wizards did not apply the salve to themselves, but to objects they wanted to give the ability to fly to. In fact, the salve itself was toxic and could induce strong hallucinations and other dangerous side effects, so skin contact had to be carefully avoided.

After flying broomsticks became popular, flight salve quickly fell out of favor due to its toxicity and the fact that the distinct smell of the ointment could easily be detected and always threatened to give away someone as a [[magus]].
