The Fir Bolg are human-like beings who are the original settlers of Ireland before the arrival of humans. It is unknown where they originate from, but they are believed to have come originally from Scotland or possibly Scandinavia.

Appearance

Fir Bolg are human-like but taller and more muscular, with large noses and ears similar to those of deer. Their skin color can vary from earthy brown to blue-ish grey and they have denser body hair than humans.

Etymology

Fir Bolg literally translates to "men of bags", and it is said that they carried bags of soil from their homeland as a symbol of their claim to the land of Ireland.

Relationship with Humans

In prehistoric times, the Fir Bolg were conquered by the Tuatha Dé Danann and used as worker class and slaves. They regained their freedom when the Tuatha were driven from the world by the Sidhe.

Fir Bolg have been friends with the human magical community for many centuries. They peaceful and hard-working people and known for their physical strength and bravery, their pride and independence and their skills in metallurgy and metalworking, as well as craftmansship and agriculture.

The Magi community has often benefitted from their skills, which are highly respected. Fir Bolg are generally held in in high regard.

Language

Fir Bolg speak a language called Draethain. It is a melodic and enchanting tongue which evokes a sense of harmony and reverence for the natural world.
