Blackrock

Blackrock is a material found exclusively in the Nightlands Anþerwelt.

Blocks of blackrock

Appearance

As the name implies, it is a mostly black mineral with slightly lighter grey patterns. When polished, it resembles black marble.

The stone naturally forms large cuboid block structures, some of which are even capable of levitation, although they loose this ability when transported to another world.

Significance

The Black Room at Greannmhar, a room covered entirely in processed blackrock, used for training potentially dangerous spells

Blackrock possesses the unusual property of being almost completely magically inert. In fact, it absorbs or blocks most magic. That means it cannot be manipulated, processed or destroyed by spells directly. It is thus often used for construction in places where protection against magic is important, such as magistry buildings or magic prisons.

Due to its resistance to magic, blackrock can only be mined using mining drills and non-magic explosives. However, this also means that spells causing explosions as a secondary effect can also be used to damage structures made from this material.

Legal Restrictions

Because of its unique properties, blackrock mining is highly regulated by the magistries around the world. Mining the mineral without official permit is illegal, as is its use in construction.
