While in Western magical culture, Tunge terms were established to refer to magical and non-magical people, these terms are not used in other places in the world. Also, some  people consider these terms derogatory. Terms such as "Ʒlœbigen" or "Vurþels" indeed may have a negative connotation.

Terms Concerning One's Magic or Non-Magic Heritage

  • Barren
    A derogatory term for Dormants. Derrived from the idea that Dormans are "barren" from magic.
  • Bluntkin
    A derogatory term for Mundanes. Derived from "blunt", meaning dull, lacking sharpness or intensity, it implies the Mundanes' lack of sharpnes, power or intensity of magic abilities that Magi possess and emphasizes their non-magical nature, expresing a sense of inferiority compared to those with magic abilities.
  • Dormant
    Individuals who were born to Magi but do not possess magic abilities. This is quite rare and the reason is unknown. Some of the more conservative and traditional families tend to consider Dormants shameful and treat them accordingly. Because of this, many Dormants decide to live in the Mundane world instead. This is how Emergent occur.
  • Drudge
    A derogatory term for Mundanes. A "drudge" is a person who does tedious, menial or unpleasant work. It refers to the Mundanes being relegated to mundane tasks and lacking the magical abolities that would elevate them above such menial work. It also implies their lives are less exciting or fulfilling compared to Magi, as well as a perceived lower status in the world.
  • Drudgeborn
    A derogatory term for Emergents.
  • Earthbound
    An alternative term for Mundanes. It is an idiomatic translation of "Mundanes" and refers to them as being children of the Earth who have no connection to unearthly powers.
  • Emergent
    Emergent are individuals born to Mundane parents who possess magic abilities. This happens if the lineages of mother and father contain magic blood, typically due to being related to a Dormant. There are several derogatory terms which show the negative stigma being emergent used to have especially among certain pureborn families.
  • Ʒlœbige / Gloebige
    Ʒlœbige (pl. Ʒlœbigen) is the Tunge word for Mundanes. The word means "gullible" and refers to how Mundanes are being fooled by illusions and other spells and thus not realizing the existence of the magic world
  • Glob
    A slang for "Ʒlœbige". While not necessarily derogatory, using the term is generally not appreciated.
  • Guster / Güster
    Stemming from the German word "güst", a term describing infertile domestic animals, Guster is a derogatory term for Dormants. While Dormants are not infertile, this is a direct translation of the word "barren".
  • Magus (pl. Magi)
    Magus is the general term for humans with magic abilities. Note that the term "mage" generally not used due to its connection to stage magic.
  • Mundane
    Individuals with no magic abilites, who are not dormant, are called Mundanes. This comes from the Latin word "mundus", meaning "world".
  • Soilborn
    A derogatory term for Emergents, referring to how Mundanes are also called "Earthbound", although "Earthbound" is not considered derogatory.
  • Spellshunned
    A derogatory term for Dormants.
  • Viglere
    Viglere (pl. Vigleren) is the Tunge word for "wizard".
  • Voidborn
    A derogatory term for Dormants.
  • Vurþel / Vurthel
    The Tunge term for Dormants. The literal translation of the word is "worthless" and shows how such children were often regarded. Although it is an official term, some prefer not to use it due to its negative connotation.
  • Wiggler
    A false cognate of "Viglere", "Wiggler" is a slang term for Magus. While it is not necessarily meant as a derogatory term, many Magi consider it as such.

Blood Status

Blood status or blood purity refers to a family's exposure to non-magic blood. Some families are very proud of their blood purity and do not accept any "tainting" influence through impure blood. However, this can lead to some undesire side effects caused by inbreeding. In this day and age, such views have become relatively uncommon and are considered antiquated and outdated.

  • Mixedborn
    An alternative term for people of mixed lineage.
  • Of mixed lineage
    Magic individuals whose lineage contains Dormants, Emergents, Mundanes or Mixedborn within less than 10 generations are considered of mixed lineage.
  • Of stained/tarnished lineage
    A derogatory term for people of mixed lineage.
  • Of true/pure lineage
    Individuals whose lineage contains only Magi who were born to other Magi for at least 10 generations are considered of true or pure lineage. The longer a family tree goes back without Dormants, Emergents, Mundanes or Mixedborn, the better. However, such lineages often suffer from a too uniform gene pool.
  • Stained / Tarnished
    A derogatory term for Mixedborn.
  • Trueborn / Pureborn
    An alternative term for people of true/pure lineage.
