Mundi

From Powers Within
(Redirected from Antherswelts)

What we call Earth, or the Universe, is only one of several worlds or realms that exist parallel to each other. In the same place, but unseen, they are separated from our world by a barrier called the "Veil", (or "Srud" in Tunge). Some of these worlds are physical in nature, like ours, others are comprised of pure magic energy.

The "energy worlds" are home to entities of pure magic energy. Such an entity is often referred to as "Ʒaast", which simply means "ghost" or "spirit".

When entering such an "energy world", a human will still perceive it as physical, just heavily themed. The reason is simply that humans can't perceive it in any other way.

Such a world is referred to as "Anþerwelt" or "Mundus".

Energy Worlds

Energy worlds, as the name implies are Mundi comprised of pure magic energy. These worlds are home to Ʒaasts, or elementals (a more modern term) which were summoned in ancient magic.

It is possible for physical beings to enter energy worlds. If they do so, they will experience the world as basically a heavily themed physical world, simply because the mind of a physical being is hardwired to interpret whatever the being perceives as such.

The rules of such a world may, however, be very different from our world.

Transferring objects from an energy world into a physical world is difficult as the object will usually manifest as energy, which will dissipate quickly. Beings from an energy world can also only remain in a physical world for a limited amount of time, as they have no actual physical form.

World of Crystals

World of Crystals

The World of Crystals is a world of light and sound which manifests into a landscape covered in complex crystal structures, some as large as mountains, others incredibly small. It is a world of glittering light and harmonious tones.

World of Dreams

The World of Dreams, sometimes referred to the World of the Mind or World of the Spirit, is often considered the most dangerous world to venture into. This world's environment, physics and rules are in a constant flux as it is shaped by the dreams and nightmares of humans.

When venturing into the World of Dreams, one can never know what to expect. It is easy to lose one's life, and even easier to loose one's way and get lost in this world forever. As such, it is generally forbidden to enter this world.

Interacting with the World of Dreams can lead to strange and unpredicatable phenomena manifesting into reality. Locations like the Crooked Forest of Krzywy Las in Poland are believed to be the result of such manifestations. Although the Crooked Forest is, at best, a minor event.

World of Elements

In the World of Elements, everything that exists is made from the four basic elements - fire, water, wind and earth, and it is home to Ʒaasts of these elements.

The environment of this world is extremely volatile with frequent storms, floods, volcanic erruptions and earthquakes. Any spells that manipulate the elements, or the fundamental forces of nature, draw from this world.

World of Light and Shadows

World of Light and Shadows

The World of Light and Shadows, sometimes referred to as just the World of Shadows, manifests as a place where everything seems to consist of the play of light and shadows. It is a strange place that is difficult to navigate for humans due to its alien and confusing apperance.

The World of Light and Shadows is home to the Umbralis.

The Illustro and Infusco spells are the most common spells that draw from this world.

Physical Worlds

Unlike energy worlds, physical words are similar in nature to Earth. Travelling to and from physical worlds is easier, and beings from physical worlds can remain in our world indefinitely. However, while most rules and laws of nature are similar to Earth, there may still be differences.

City of Glass

Shattered Planes in the City of Glass

The City of Glass, or World of Glass, also known as Illyria, is a barren world covered entirely in structures made from stained glass. Some of these structures can reach the height of skyscrapers, making them look like a city from the distance, hence the name. Some people like to harvest the glass to use it in talismans and other magical constructions, believing it to possess special powers. However, when examined, it seems to be perfectly normal stained glass.

Garden of Kadish

Garden of Kadish

The Garden of Kadish is a beautiful, seemingly endless magical garden. The magic of this world itself seems to take care of the garden, automatically growing, arranging and trimming plants in certain ways. Sometimes parts of the Garden are also rearranged. There is always something new to discover here.

The Garden is the dream of botanists and herbologists, as some of the plants here are quite unusual and have powerful properties.

However, exploring the garden is not without risk. People have been known to disappear without trace, and everyone who disappeared had apparently caused damage to the garden in some way, such as plucking a rare plant or stepping on a flower patch. The garden does not seem to distinguish between accidental and intentional damage.

Land of Youth

The Land of Youth (Tír na nÓg) is the home of the Tuatha Dé Danann. It is said to be a place of eternal youth, beauty and happiness where there is no sickness or death. It is a place of great wealth and abundance, where the fields are always in bloom and the trees are always heavy with fruit. It is also said that time passes differently there than in other worlds.

Other than the other known Mundi, the Land of Youth cannot be entered by mortals unless they are brought there by its inhabitants. However, it is said that the incredibly beauty of this world has the ability to drive humans into a deep depression once they return home.

Nightlands

Nightlands

Nightlands, also called the World of Darkness, is a place of perpetual night, as the name implies. The world is known for two particular things. The first is the stunning sky featuring a huge white and blue nebula that covers the entire firmament. The second is the fact that the entire landscape seems to be comprised of blackrock, a material that is of great importance to the magistries around the world.

Blackrock blocks can even be found floating in this world, although it is unclear how it can float.

Shattered Lands

The Shattered Lands, also known as Shattered World or Land of Shards, a mysterious and enigmatic realm, exists in stark contrast to our own world. This bizarre place consists of fragmented shards of land, varying in size from colossal masses to mere pebbles, floating in a seemingly infinite sky. The forces of magic are volatile and unpredictable in this realm, creating landscapes and phenomena that defy conventional understanding.

The lands themselves are a tapestry of beauty and terror. In some regions, shards are adorned with vibrant, luminescent flora and majestic crystal formations, painting a picture of ethereal serenity. In others, twisted, gnarled landscapes evoke a sense of foreboding, as though plucked from the darkest recesses of a Lovecraftian nightmare.

The creatures that inhabit the Shattered Lands are as diverse and wondrous as the lands themselves. Among them, the Rattus faber stands out as a testament to the power of adaptation and ingenuity. Resembling Earth's rats in appearance, these creatures have evolved remarkable intelligence and resourcefulness to navigate the fragmented world in which they reside.

The Shattered Lands serve as a humbling reminder of the boundless possibilities and mysteries that lie beyond our own world. Its inhabitants, like the Rattus faber, are a testament to the power of adaptation and the resilience of life, even in the face of unimaginable adversity.

Clockworld

Clockwork forest

The Clockworld, also known as World of Clockwork, is a strange and surreal place where everything is made entirely out of gears and cogs that move in a precise and mechanical way. The world is home to clockwork creatures and constructs.

Some believe the Clockworld allows a glimpse into the mechanics of the universe, and is the origin of time itself.

The Clockworld is unique in the way that it is the only Mundus known that seems to consist of what we would consider artificial structures. How this is possible and how it came to exist is a mystery.

World of Illusion

In a sense, the World of Illusion is a like a cross between the World of Reflections and the World of Dreams. It mirrors our world in many ways, but it is constantly shifting and changing, making it difficult to distinguish truth from illusion. Only the illusions in this world are not created from dreams. Some occur on their own, others are woven by the world's creatures.

It is easy to get lost in this world, as nothing that is seen or heard can be trusted.

The World of Illusion is home to many creatures capable of using illusions. The Japanese kitsunes originate from this world.

World of Reflections

Erlendari city in the World of Reflections

The World of Reflections, sometimes called the World of Mirrors, is considered beautiful and confusing at the same time. Everything that exists is a reflexion of our own world. However, the reflections can be warped and distorted. Sometimes reflections are "angled", leading to the existence of multiple reflections of the same thing, or the creation of non-euclidian spaces.

Since everything in this world is a reflection, magic may also be reversed, meaning harmful magic can heal and healing magic can harm.

The World of Reflections is sometimes used by Magi as a way to hide or protect things.

The Mirror's Maiden is known to travel through the World of Reflections to reach several hidden ports (mirror ports) to transport students to and from Greannmhar.

The World of Reflections is home to the Erlendari civilization.

World of Silence

The World of Silence is described as an endless desert. As its name suggests, there is absolutely no sound. This makes it difficult for wizards to cast spells, as incantations are impossible. In fact, even wizards normally capable of casting spells without incantations are unable to do so in this world. The only magic that work are pre-prepared spells or artifacts.

When one stays in this world for too long, it is said that one will begin to hear a strange sound, almost like a whisper, which will eventually become more defined until one can actually make out words, although these make no sense. The whisper is said to have driven people mad.

Others report hearing a strangely harmonic sound, almost like it was created by a huge, unknown instrument. Individuals who reported hearing this sound never heard the alleged whisper and did not develop any signs of madness.
