Bridget O'Connell (1705 - 1844) was a witch whose love of music was matched only by her desire to help others. She had a natural talent for healing and was known throughout the region for her ability to cure all manner of ailments. People would come from miles around to seek her help and she never turned anyone away.

Personality

Despite her reputation as a healer and musician, Bridget was also a fiercely independent woman. She was also known for her fierce determination and no-nonsense attitude. She was a force to be reckoned with and would not hesitate to stand up for what she believed in. This combination of strength and creativity, along with her dedication and skill, earned her the respect of the local community and beyond, and she became something of a legend in her own time.

Appearance

She had a slender build and stood at an average height. Her hair was long and jet black, cascading in waves down her back. Her skin was fair, and her face was angular, with high cheekbones and a sharp jawline. She had deep-set brown eyes that sparkled with an inner light, and her nose was slightly pointed.

She often wore long flowing dresses in earthy colors, and her favorite accessory was a silver pendant in the shape of a lyre.

Personal History

Bridget was born in Sneem, County Kerry, Ireland in 1705 as one of 4 children. She was a unique individual from a young age, with a passion for music that set her apart from her peers. She began playing the lyre at the age of five and by the time she was a teenager, she was considered to be one of the finest musicians in the area.

Although she was skilled in many instruments, Bridget's true love was the lyre. She would also spend hours scouring the markets in nearby towns and villages for rare and unusual pieces. Her collection of lyres was vast, and each one held a special place in her heart. The instruments filled her house, and she often played them for hours on end, lost in the music. Visitors would often be surprised to find themselves surrounded by the beautiful instruments.

Bridget never married and preferred to live alone, dedicating her life to her passions.

Today, a portrait of Bridget hangs at the Greannmhar School of Magick, where it serves as a reminder of her incredible talent and the positive impact she had on the lives of those around her. Her legacy continues to inspire musicians and healers alike, and her story remains an important part of Irish folklore to this day.

Another portrait hangs in the Taberna Musica in Glenmoor, whose owner, Ceri Popkin, is Bridget's 8x great-niece.

Wand

Bridget's magic wand was unique and reflected her personality. It was a simple, unadorned wooden wand, but it had a warm and comforting energy that made it easy to use. Fiona believed that magic was a natural part of life and that it should be used to help others. She saw her magic as a gift, and she used it wisely and with great care.
